The Historic Downtown Painesville Recreation Area is home to 284 acres of public parkland and college green space, more than double the amount of park land at nearby Headlands State Park.

Test your stamina with a 20-mile bike ride to Middlefield on the Greenway Corridor. Reel in a ten pound steelhead on the Grand River. Or throw touchdown passes on the same fields where Don Shula learned the game.

From Friday night lights to a relaxing morning massage, there’s plenty to do both inside and out. Downtown Painesville is packed with parks and adventures.

Fishing (2)

Steelhead Alley

With public access points on the Grand River at Beaty Landing and Recreation Park, Painesville is one of the best locations for steelhead trout fishing in North America. Every year the Ohio Division of Wildlife stocks the Grand River with over 100,000 steelhead. These fish migrate out into Lake Erie each spring and return through Painesville each fall. Steelhead are notorious for their tenacious fighting capabilities. For fishing permits, tips, and other useful information, visit the Ohio Division of Wildlife.
